MAPK3 (Mitogen-activated protein kinase 3), also known as p44MAPK and ERK1, is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the MAPK3 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the MAP kinase family. MAP kinase, also known as extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), plays a role in signal cascades, which regulate various cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation and cell cycle progression in response to various extracellular signals. MAPK3 is an important part of MAP kinase signal transduction pathway. Diseases associated with MAPK3 include Neutrophil Migration and Pertussis. The related pathways include the common signal transduction pathways of cytokine receptor gamma chain family and the interaction between GDNF family ligands and receptors.
