PRCP (prolylcarboxypeptidase) is a lysosomal prolyl carboxypeptidase that cleaves C-terminal amino acids linked to proline. This enzyme has been proved to be an activator of cell matrix-related prekallikrein. The importance of angiotensin II in regulating blood pressure and electrolyte balance suggests that the gene may be associated with essential hypertension. Diseases associated with PRCP include erythrocyte pyruvate kinase deficiency and congenital non-balloon hemolytic anemia. The related pathways include the formation of innate immune system and fibrin coagulation.
